EU launches LIFE 2026 calls with over €600 million for green projects

The European Union has opened the LIFE 2026 calls for proposals, with a total budget of €601.5 million, aimed at supporting innovative projects in environment and climate action. The programme remains one of the EU’s main funding instruments for high-impact sustainable solutions.

Boosting competitiveness and energy resilience

In a context marked by the energy crisis and geopolitical uncertainty, LIFE 2026 seeks to strengthen European competitiveness, accelerate the decarbonisation of the economy, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It also promotes more resilient and efficient energy systems.

What types of projects can be funded? 

Standard Action Projects (SAPs) 

• Nature and Biodiversity - €166 million
• Nature Governance - €7.5 million
• Circular Economy and Zero Pollution - €79 million
• Environmental Governance - €6.5 million
• Climate Change Adaptation - €28 million
• Climate Change Mitigation - €28 million
• Climate Governance - €4 million 

Other Projects (OPs) and Clean Energy Transition Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs) 

• Clean Energy Transition – €85.5 million
• Specific Operating Grant Agreements (SGA OGs) for NGOs – €15 million (coming soon)

Projects on Legislative and Policy Priorities (PLPs) - €18 million 

Strategic Nature Projects (SNaPs) and Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) 

• Strategic Nature Projects - €75 million
• Strategic Integrated Environment Projects - €58 million 
• Strategic Integrated Climate Projects - €30 million 

Technical assistance 

• Technical assistance for preparation of SIPs and SNaPs - €1 million 

Who can apply

Eligible applicants include companies, SMEs, startups, universities, research centres, public administrations and NGOs, as long as they are legal entities based in the EU or associated countries. Proposals can be submitted individually or in consortium.

Deadlines and application support

The calls opened on 21 April 2026, with a deadline for Standard Action Projects (SAPs) on 22 September 2026.
